YOUTH EDUCATION
Educational opportunities for youth at Shir Sholom . . .
Shir Shalom Children’s Education Program was founded in 1996 by members of the Congregation who were passionate about offering a local venue to provide Jewish Education to the children of our community. Our Hebrew school is headed by Rabbi Steve Finley, Yaffa Finley, and a warm and knowledgeable staff. We're proud to offer a dynamic program for students in kindergarten through seventh grade, B’nei Mitzvah preparation, and Family Learning Days—at which all Shir Shalom members are welcome.
Our religious school integrates a wide array of Judaic studies with weekly emphasis on Hebrew and prayer, while also incorporating enriching activities such as music and art. We are welcoming and inclusive to all Jewish families as well as those with interfaith backgrounds.
*We are currently meeting in-person and following recommended State and County guidelines for Covid-19.
Our 2024 - 2025 program
Kindergarten through seventh grade students meet on Wednesday afternoons with Rabbi Steve and staff from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Students in these grades undertake intensive Hebrew study and TaNaKh (Torah, Prophets and Scriptures), while developing their siddur (prayer book) skills and exploring Jewish spiritual practice. These students participate in leading our Friday evening Family Shabbat Service.

Moving Traditions - A Coming of Age Program
This program for 6th through 8th graders explores the meaning of becoming a young Jewish adult. It also provides an excellent platform to make Jewish friends across our broader regional communities of Napa, Sonoma, Petaluma, and Marin.

Shabbat
On selected Fridays, Rabbi Steve leads a spiritually interactive and musical Shabbat celebration, and participation by school children is an important part of their religious school experience. Prior to the service, we gather as a community to share a family Shabbat dinner.
CSS is grateful for financial support from the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund for our children's school.
