Congregation Shir Shalom is committed to fostering education, spiritual growth, and community spirit.
These are some of the ways we serve our members and our community. We're constantly evolving our programs, services, and events to meet the needs of those in our congregation and beyond.

Worship
Warm, inclusive, friendly, musical, participatory and inspiring, our Shabbat services are held twice monthly. Rabbi Steve infuses the services with his wisdom, humor and professional musical ability.
Festivals and Holidays
All Jewish calendar festivals and holidays are celebrated and studied. From season-to-season and year-to-year, just a few of the myriad of traditions we celebrate are: High Holy Days' Services, construction of a community Sukkah, rolling out the Torah scroll on Simchat Torah, a community Chanukah Menorah lighting, a Purim celebration, Shavuot picnic, and our community Seder.
Life Cycle Traditions and Transitions
As a community we celebrate and honor Life Cycle Traditions and Transitions from birth to B’nei Mitzvah, and from weddings to the end of life. It is during these times of celebration, transition and sadness when we most need our community. We also have an active Chesed-Caring Committee that reaches out and helps wherever there is need.
Community Involvement
As a congregation and as individual citizens and Jews, we are committed to the needs of the Jewish and secular community. Congregation Shir Shalom is the Jewish voice in the Sonoma Valley, inspiring compassionate partnerships in our community.
Social and Cultural Activities
Our congregation is an active, educated and diverse community. We are a close-knit group that enjoy each other’s company. Opportunities for social interaction and discussion include brunches, small group Shabbats, afternoon get-togethers, and book groups. We come together for field trips and other cultural events in the Bay Area, and participate in Shabbat Across America.
Fundraising and Development
We are a young congregation and committed to ensuring our continued presence, enhancing our programs and funding our growth. The skills, talents, financial commitment and volunteerism of our congregation are how we make this happen. Among our major source of fundraising is our annual High Holy Days’ Appeal. Our dues are structured to meet the needs of all individuals at any stage of life. We are indebted to our members who have the ability and generosity to support the congregation at an increased level. Participation and contributions secure our future from generation to generation.
Interfaith Relations
Many of our families are interfaith. We feel this enriches us in creating a unique, welcoming and participatory community. Since our inception we have shared the campus of First Congregational Church, have held periodic joint services, and conduct interfaith classes together. Rabbi Steve is an active member and past president of the Sonoma Valley Interfaith Ministerial Association.

CSS Sisterhood
Sisterhood is the place for women to connect and thrive. Along with Men's Club, Sisterhood's members orchestrate the food for many of the festival and holiday celebrations including Break the Fast and the community Passover Seder. In the past, we've connected through activities such as An Evening of Jewish Books at Readers' Books store, art appreciation lectures and field trips, dinner at Ramekins Cooking School, and a tasting of Passover favorites. Looking for a mah jong or scrabble game? This may just be the place! The annual dues of $54 goes entirely to support the activities we engage in and enjoy together. Join us!
CSS Men's Club
From constructing the Sukkah, to serving hot dogs at the Purim carnival, or making the best latkes at our Chanukah celebration, the Men's Club of Congregation Shir Shalom is always there to help. This congenial group meets regularly for “guy talks.” Other activities include the creation of academic scholarships for worthy students, community service projects, and supporting the Rabbi with a little hands-on “muscle” when needed. The annual dues of $40 goes entirely to support the activities we engage in and enjoy together. Join us!
