Together with Rabbi Jack and the Congregation as a whole, we
celebrate and honor Life-cycle Traditions and Transitions from birth
to death. We have an active Caring Committee that reaches out and
helps wherever needed.
We foster lifelong learning and spiritual growth with twice
monthly classes led by Rabbi Jack, speakers, films and
potluck dinners. These gatherings bring us together to
share and learn from one
another.
Many of our families are Interfaith. We feel this enriches us in
creating a unique, welcoming and participatory Community.
Since our inception we have shared the campus of the First
Congregational Church, have held periodic joint services and
together are planning a series of Interfaith classes.
Many of us choose to enjoy each others Company through
cultural and social activities. We are a close knit Community.
Among our members there are “circles of eight” and discussion
and book groups. We come together for field trips, and
other cultural events in the Bay Area and participate in
Shabbat Across America. And our own “Sonoma Jewish Music
& Arts Festival.
All calendar holidays are celebrated
and studied. From season to season
and year to year just a few of the
myriad of traditions we celebrate are
High Holiday services, construction of a Community
Sukkah, rolling the Torah scroll on Simchat Torah, a
community Chanukah Menorah Menorah Lighting, a
Purim Celebration and our Community Seder.
More than just social groups, our Sisterhood and Men's Club
serve the congregation in many ways. From constructing the
sukkah to serving hot dogs at the Purim carnival, the men of
Shir Shalom are always there to help. This congenial group
meets regularly for "guy talks." The Men's Club is planning a
Food and Wine pairing event next May... Watch for the flyers!
